A 35-year-old Queensland man has been charged with murder after the body of a woman in her 70s was found on Sunday.

The Frenchville man was taken into custody after he reportedly drove himself to Rockhampton Police Station, following the alleged murder.

He was charged with one count of murder, domestic violence offence.

Police were called to a residence in West Street, Allenstowne at approximately 3.50pm yesterday.

Inside the body of a woman in her 70s was located.

It is alleged the man and woman were known to each other.

The accused is expected to appear before Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
